President Anura Kumara Disanayake emphasized the necessity of fully and effectively utilizing the budgetary allocations for the development of the irrigation system within the next eight months.
The President made these remarks during a discussion held today (06) at the Presidential Secretariat regarding the future development of the country’s irrigation system and the effective deployment of funds allocated for the irrigation sector in the 2025 Budget.
President Disanayake highlighted that a significant budget allocation has been made for the irrigation sector this year, aiming to provide a long-term solution to the persistent water issues faced by farmers.
The discussion also focused on ensuring the productive use of these allocations in relevant projects, as achieving the anticipated national economic growth target of 3%–4% this year largely depends on their proper implementation. Officials were urged to closely monitor these projects and ensure the optimal use of funds.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation K.D. Lal Kantha, Deputy Minister of Land and Irrigation Dr. Susil Ranasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation D.P. Wickramasinghe, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Kapila Janaka Bandara, along with senior ministry officials and directors of irrigation projects.
