Closely Monitor and Expedite Completion of Irrigation Projects

– President Instructs Officials

A progress review meeting on projects implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation under the financial allocations of the current Budget was held today (6) at the Presidential Secretariat, under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Disanayake.

The discussion focused extensively on various irrigation-related initiatives, including the Yan Oya, Gal Oya and Mahaweli projects, as well as the rehabilitation of minor reservoirs.

During the meeting, President Disanayake instructed officials to conduct close assessments of all projects being implemented under the current Budget and to ensure their prompt completion without delay.

Attention was also drawn to the prevailing issues in the irrigation sector and possible solutions to those challenges.

Deputy Minister of Lands and Irrigation Dr Susil Ranasinghe; Secretary to the President Dr Nandika Sanath Kumanayake; Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Mahinda Siriwardena; Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation D.P. Wickramasinghe; Senior Additional Secretaries to the President Russell Aponso and Kapila Janaka Bandara; along with officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, were present at the meeting.
