President Anura Kumara Disanayake stated that this year’s budget is data-driven, scientifically implemented, and strategically planned.
The President made these remarks during a discussion held today (19) at the Presidential secretariat with representatives of the Association of Medical Specialists (AMS).
During the discussion, the President highlighted that, in history, various governments have obtained loans without considering their long-term economic impact upon repayment. President Disanayake asserted that his administration will refrain from engaging in unstructured borrowing or unsystematic economic activities while reaffirming that his government’s highest priority is ensuring economic sustainability.
The AMS representatives highlighted several important matters to the President, such as the necessity for a structured service framework for specialist medical professionals and various other professional issues.
They also conveyed their gratitude for several key measures put forward in the budget, including the increase in the basic salary, upward revision of pension benefits in line with the revised total salary starting this year, the provision of allowances, and raising of the income tax threshold.
Additionally, the representatives presented a proposal covering various matters, including the safety of healthcare workers.
Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, and the President of the Association of Medical Specialists, Dr. D.K.S.N. Yasawardhana, along with other officials from the association, attended the discussion.
