Wasath Siriya 2023 application deadline – 12 noon on Friday

The call for applications for the “Wasath Siriya 2023” Sinhala and Tamil New Year Festival competitions organized jointly by the Presidential Secretariat and Government Ministries will close at 12.00 noon on Friday, April 21.

The “Wasath Siriya” Sinhala and Tamil New Year Festival, organized on the instructions of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, will be held on Saturday, April 22 from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Shangri-La Green premises, Colombo, and competition events have been organized under 03 categories, namely, public, open, and guest category.

The competitions have been divided into three sections, namely State Section, Open Section, and Guest Section, and feature a total of 18 competitions for both men and women. These competitions are open to the staff members of ministries and government institutions, their family members, friends, and children.

The line-up of events include finding the hidden guest, placing the eye on the elephant, breaking the pot blindfolded, counting the seeds of a papaw, weaving coconut branches, scraping coconut, pillow fighting, bun eating contest, drinking milk with a soother, threading a needle, 100 M race, feeding yoghurt blindfolded, obstacle race, bursting the balloon, lighting the candle, lime and spoon race, tug-of-war, musical chairs, passing the hat game, best laugh competition, and selecting the biggest belly.

There will also be an open division where any Sri Lankan can participate and it will include 16 events including the “Pura Sariya” Standard Bicycle Race, Marathon Race, Grease poll, Tug of War, , Candle Lighting, Balloon Bursting, and Avurudu prince & princess contest.

Also, a guest section is open for foreigners, embassies, foreign institutions and foreigners from nearby hotels. It consists of 10 competitions that tourists can enjoy such as Musical hat competition, finding the hidden coin, sack race and bun eating contest.

Applications are now open for “Wasath Siriya 2023” Avurudu Prince – Princess contest, Marathon Race, Standard Bicycle race, Pillow fighting and Tug of War and the applications are available on the official website

The organizing committee has arranged to award valuable prizes and certificates to all the winners.

“Wasath Siriya 2023” Musical concert will commence at 7.00 pm at the venue.
