At a time when everyone was evading from taking on the responsibility of the country, President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who thought of the country and shouldered this tough responsibility, will surely receive the blessings of the entire Maha Sangha, said the Ruwanweli Saya Viharadhipathi, Syamopali Maha Nikaya Malwathu Chapter, Rajarata Nuwara Kalaviye Chief Sanghanayake Most Venerable Pallegama Hemarathana Nayaka Thera.
The President visited the historic Anuradhapura Sacred site today (20) to pay homage and engage in religious observances. Thereafter, when the President visited the Ruwanweli Seya Viharadhipathi, he bestowed his blessings upon the President and made a short speech.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe also participated in the special religious rites held at the Ruwanweli Maha Seya Chaitya and received blessings.
Subsequently, the President visited the Most Venerable Pallegama Hemarathana Nayaka Thero and inquired into his well-being and engaged in cordial conversation.
Delivering a brief exhortation, the Nayaka Thera said the President had to take on the country at a time when it was sliding into an abyss in every aspect.
The Thera said that all the right decisions taken by the President for the sake of the country will receive the blessings of the Maha Sangha.
He also said that the opportunity has now come to select a competent team that is capable of taking the right decisions and who can implement those decisions, adding that the time is rife to enforce the ‘Sapta Aparihani Dharma’ (Seven Conditions of Welfare), which the President has talked about for a long time.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe then visited the Thuparama Temple and inquired about the well-being of the temple administrator, Most Venerable Kahalle Gnaninda Nayaka Thera.
The Maha Sangha chanted Seth Pirith and invoked blessings upon the President who engaged in religious observances.
The President also visited the Mirisawatiya Rajamaha Viharaya and engaged in a brief conversation with the Vihara Director Most Venerable Ethalawatunu Wavey Gnanathilaka Nayaka Thero.
During a brief exhortation the Thero said that everyone should sincerely rally round the President who had fearlessly accepted the challenges facing the country and is today, steering the country in the right direction.
He also said that at no cost should party color, caste and religious differences be taken into consideration and emphasized that it is a national responsibility that is assigned to everyone with a conscience.
Most Venerable Ethalawatunu Wavey Gnanathilaka Nayaka Thero also briefed the President on the difficulties faced by the people of the area.
“It is a tragedy that although the people of the North Central Province render a great contribution to the national economy, the benefits of the national resources do not accrue to those people. Many of those people suffer from non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, kidney disease, and cancer. I request the North Central Canal project to be completed as soon as possible for the betterment of their lives,” the Thera added.
