The country’s landscape has shifted significantly, with parties that once hid in fear during ‘Aragalaya’ now boldly demanding elections – State Minister of Trade and Environment S. Viyalanderan

State Minister of Trade and Environment, S. Viyalanderan, highlighted a significant shift in the country’s political landscape, noting that parties once in hiding during ‘Aragalaya’ period are now boldly advocating for elections.

He further said that this transformation is a testament to President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s courageous leadership and commitment to rebuilding our nation.

State Minister S. Viyalanderan revealed this while speaking at the news conference themed ‘Collective Path to a Stable Country’ at the Presidential Media Centre (PMC) today (10).

The State Minister further remarked,

In the past, this country faced severe economic decline, reaching a point where there was a critical shortage of funds for essential purchases. Today, although there has been some reduction in the prices of goods, we continue to face numerous challenges. Despite this, President Ranil Wickremesinghe and the government are actively engaged in addressing the people’s issues and working towards solutions.

We anticipate that as the country progresses economically, many of the challenges faced by our people will be resolved. During the economic crisis, some chose to leave the country, while others, including political leaders, went into hiding. In that critical moment, President Ranil Wickremesinghe courageously stepped forward to lead the nation.

The situation in our country has transformed significantly since then. Even those who once hid in fear are now boldly demanding elections from public platforms. They may perceive the current environment as fertile ground for their political ambitions. However, their actions appear to be motivated primarily by self-interest in the present circumstances.

However, President Ranil Wickremesinghe is paying more attention to solving the problems affecting the people of the country. As a State Minister, I have also contributed as much as possible to the successful completion of that program.

Also, there is a huge mafia operating in this country that imports goods at a low price and sell them at a higher price or fixed prices to sell the existing goods at a higher price. We are working to control this situation. Cooperative societies are given more responsibility in that task. While distributing products through the cooperative network of about 03 million members, we are able to directly import goods and sell them to the public at low prices.
