The All Ceylon Shasanarakshaka Bala Mandalaya presented a set of proposals aimed at fostering a virtuous society to Secretary to the President, Mr. Saman Ekanayake, at the Presidential Secretariat, yesterday (09).
Highlighting the nexus between diminishing religious education and the surge in societal crime, the All Ceylon Shasanarakshaka Bala Mandalaya urged President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s attention towards their proposals.
They praised the President’s initiatives during his tenure, including the establishment of Piriven and the appointment of teacher assistants who passed the Bauddha Dharmacharya Examination.
Key proposals entail enhancing Dhamma school education, recruiting qualified teachers, securing temple lands, and safeguarding Theravada Buddhism nationally and internationally.
Secretary to the Ministry of Buddha Shasana Religious and Cultural Affairs affirmed the alignment of proposals with existing laws and assured their submission to President Wickremesinghe.
Secretary Saman Ekanayake outlined on-going national programs, including ‘Urumaya’ and land ownership initiatives, alongside plans for agricultural modernization and Kandukara Dashakaya development program.
A committee will be formed to address concerns, with a report to be submitted to President Wickremesinghe soon, he added.
Senior Advisor to the President, Prof. Sunanda Maddumabandara, provided additional insights during the meeting.
