President’s aim is to build the country by uniting everyone

President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that while other countries in the world were moving forward day by day with achievements, our country was moving backwards because we cannot work together, and it is his aim to correct that historical mistake and unite everyone and strive for the country’s progress.

The President engaged in a tour of the historic Anuradhapura Sacred sites today (20) and also paid a visit to the Anuradhapura Sambuddha Jayanti Maha Viharaya to pay a courtesy call on the Chief Sanghanayaka of the North Central Division Most Venerable Dr. Pangnananda Nayaka Thera and had a brief discussion with him.

The Nayaka Thera chanted Seth Pirith and invoked blessings on the President and also extended his blessings for the President’s future plans.
Pointing out that the first task is to build discipline in the country, Nugetenne Pangnananda Nayaka Thera said that a country without discipline will never move forward.

He noted that school children as well as teachers need to have discipline, adding that the discipline of the teaching profession was destroyed when the teachers, who were highly respected in society, took to the streets to protest.
He expressed his appreciation to the President for working towards restoring the discipline that had deteriorated in the society with the past events.

The people are all eagerly looking forward to a collective program that will develop the country, the Thera said, requesting the President to take leadership in fulfilling that responsibility without delay.

The Most Venerable Ihala Halmillawe Rathanapala Nayaka Thera said this during a brief exhortation when the President visited the Jethawanarama Viharaya and met with him.
The Thera appreciated the efforts of the President to work together and solve the problems of the people.

The President then visited the Abhayagiriya Rajamaha Viharaya and paid a courtesy call on the temple Administrator Royal Pandit Dr. Kallanchiye Rathanasiri Nayaka Thera and inquired about his well-being.

The President said that the government has recognized the need to develop tourism in order to boost the economy of the people of the area, adding that they are focusing on a special program to attract tourists to ancient cities such as Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya.
Thereafter, President Ranil Wickremesinghe visited the Isurumuniya Rajamaha Viharaya and received the blessings of Viharadhipathi Ven. Dr. Mathawa Sumangala Nayaka Thera.

Recalling that the President took charge of the country at a time when the country was “like a torch burning from both ends”, he wished the President the strength and courage to put out those flames and provide solutions to the burning problems of the people of the country.

The Maha Sangha chanted Seth Pirith and invoked blessings on the President who visited Isurumuniya Raja Maha Viharaya. The President also interacted with local devotees and foreigners who were present at the temple.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who visited the Anuradhapura Sri Sarananda Maha Pirivena, paid a courtesy call on the Maha Sangha led by Viharadhipathi Shastrapati, Tripitakavedhi Venerable Atabage Wimalagnana Thera and engaged in a brief discussion with him.
