President engages in religious observances in Kandy in view of 75th Anniversary of Independence

President Ranil Wickremesinghe paid obeisance to the historical Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy yesterday (02) afternoon and received blessings.

The President also participated in the special pooja prepared for the relics of the sacred tooth, initiating the 75th National Independence Day celebrations.

The President also participated in the pirith chanting conducted at the Victoria Dam site and obtained blessings.

The pirith chanting was conducted under the patronage of the Most Venerable Agga Maha Panditha Dodampahala Chandrasiri Thera.

President Wickremesinghe carried the sacred relics to the enclosure where the pirith chanting was conducted (Pirith mandapaya) and invited the Maha Sangha to conduct the Pirith chanting.

Buddhasasana Religious and Cultural Affairs Minister Vidura Wickramanayake, Central Province Governor Lalith U. Gamage and other public representatives from the Kandy district, Mr Sagala Ratnayake, President’s Senior Adviser on National Security andPresident’s Chief of Staff and Mr Saman Ekanayake, President’s Secretary, attended the event.

Meanwhile, President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who engaged in an observation tour of the Victoria Dam premises, also instructed the officials to develop the premises in a manner that would attract tourists.
